Held annually in Oklahoma City since 2004, the Oklahoma Folklife Festival promotes education and active conservation of folk traditions in the state. A folk tradition is any "activity of the people" learned by oral instruction, or by participating in the community where the activity takes place as part of the lifestyle of the people.

Slapout tune by D-Mac that sums up the feelings of unplanned and uncontrollable lateness.

Little did we know that a few ladies sitting in the audience could sing a lot better than we could! Would love to put their duet with Jimmy Redshirt on "Margaritaville" here, but youtube copyright will not allow it. Happy holidays from us!

11-year-old blues artist, Blue Fire Foley, plays Son House's "Preachin' Blues" at the 2006 Script 2 Screen Blues Festival in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Blue Fire was asked to play by Oklahoma bluesman, DC Minner, who received an award for lifetime achievements in the arts. While some have commented that Robert Johnson originally recorded "Preachin' Blues", common knowledge among blues historians indicates that Johnson was only a harmonica player when he would watch Son House play in the juke joints in Mississippi. Catch Son House's "Preachin' Blues" on Father of the Folk Blues (Columbia 2417), and then check out Johnson's version on any release of his music. You'll see that Son House is listed as the author on his records, and that Robert Johnson is listed as the author on his records. So, who came first is academic, but less important than the fact that young people today can still be inspired by this music.

A quick edit of the 2012 Iowa Tribe of OK Powwow to see how it looks overall, and to figure out how it can be sculpted down to 49 minutes for showing on RSU-TV in the fall and spring on my televised classes. More titles and head staff will be added later... I always enjoy the Iowa dance!
